Summary of Monitoring Objectives:
The goal of Sun River watershed water quality sampling is to add to the existing Sun River water quality monitoring dataset that is used to assess trends in water quality and track progress towards reaching the goals of the Sun River TMDL plan (2004) and the Sun River Watershed Restoration Plan (WRP) (2022). The field data collected by SRWG is considered along with all other readily available data obtained from federal, state and local agencies and organizations to evaluate progress towards meeting water quality standards in the Sun River. A desirable outcome of continued monitoring is in identifying, evaluating and remediating the sources/contributing factors to nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment loads in the Sun River and tributaries. Water quality monitoring occurs between April and October each year and volunteers are always welcome to assist with data collection.
The Sun River Water Quality Working Group meets annually and as needed to discuss water quality issues and goals.
Please contact Tracy Wendt for more information about volunteering or to get involved with the working group.
